The 2023 Spring Eco-Tours

The 28th year of our Eco-Tours. See the green spaces of Edison and surrounding communities and help take part in cleaning up these areas to keep our Township and surrounding communities clean.

Echo tours are usually less than three miles and are fairly easy hikes. However, you’ll get to see parks and preserves that you may have never known existed.

Call 732-906-0529 to see if the tour has been canceled or the meeting place has been moved. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Bring something to drink, binoculars, and a notepad or a birding journal.

1. Tingley Lane Park
   Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm
   Meet at Parking Lot J. of the Adams Middle School, 1081 New Dover Rd in North Edison.
   Hike an over 80 acre forest with numerous vernal ponds. New hiking route, and dogs are welcome.

2. Songbird Trail Cleanup
   Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 12:00pm to 3:30pm
   Meet at New York Blvd and Tyler Road (it might be called Woodbrook Road on Google Maps)
   Help clean up a part of the Barnes Preserve.

3. Piscatawaytown Burial Grounds Cleanup and Tour
   Saturday, April 15 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm Tour starts at 3:15pm
   Meet behind St James Church, 2136 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison
   Help cleanup the oldest cemetery in Middlesex County which had been around before the Revolutionary War. A tour of the area will include the cemetery, some of the notable graves, and the Colored Section where African Americans were segregated from the rest of the cemetery.

4. Edison Earth Day 2023 at Papaianni Park
   Saturday, April 22 from 9:00am to 3:00pm
   Meet at Papaianni Park, off of Municipal Blvd. Take the third exit on the traffic circle and drive down to the parking lot.
   Environmental events, hike of the park at around 11:00am, cleanup, activities, history. Dogs okay.
   Event is organized by the Edison Township Environmental Commission

5. Highland Avenue Woods in South Plainsfield
   Saturday, May 6 at 9:00am
   Meet at the parking lot just past 105 Sylvania Place, South Plainfield.
   Tour a woodland that has an area with a deer fence to prevent deer damage. Visit an environmental center, plus the South Plainfield Museum.

6. 27th Annual Bicycle Tour of Edison and Metuchen
   Sunday, May 21, 9:00am to 1:00pm
   Meet at the Edison Township Municipal Building at 100 Municipal Blvd
   25 mile of bike riding. Will include rest stops and snacks. $10.00 registration fee.

7. Memorial Day Flag Raising at the Oak Tree Pond Historic Park
   Monday, May 29 at 11:45am
   Meet at 1135 New Dover Rd, Edison, NJ

8. National Trails Day at the Barnes Preserve Red Trail
   Saturday, June 3 from 9:00am to 12:00pm
   Grand opening of the first trail in Barnes Preserve

9. Short Hills Battlefield Retreat
   Sunday, June 25 from 10:00am to 12:00pm
   Walk the route of the retreat from the Short Hills Battlefield to Washington’s Headquarters at the Drake House in South Plainfield.
